Summary: The hotel is fine and in decent condition. The walls are thin enabling me to hear my neighbors' TV. The staff were generally unable to converse in English and thus I had to use my broken German to try to get by - this resulted in my interactions with all but one person (a waitress at breakfast) being terse and cold - which is not/not typical for Austrians. The heat is set too low and thus led to some shivers during the night (needed two blankets to keep warm) and the shower doesn't have a shower curtain - I suspected I was supposed to let it spray into the bathroom? Furthermore, there is no WiFi signal at all in the room and breakfast was not included in the room rate. Finally, Mariazell was a snooze - I'm sure it has some big draw, but I was there during ski season and it left me cold. There's much better value further west in Austria.
